fundraiser at the Atchafalaya Basin, a river delta and wetlands in Louisiana.

LHA in the USA

At home in Louisiana, LHA partners with local organizations including, Tibetan House of New Orleans, Clear Water Sanctuary, Tulane University, Tulane Medical School, Loyola University, Centenary College, Ochsner Medical Center of New Orleans and the Louisiana Mississippi Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (LMHPCO) plus other local, national and international groups. We work locally with some organizations, while others send groups to India each year to volunteer their time and skills, while learning directly from practioners of ancient wisdom traditions and cultures of the Himalayas. Together, we host Tibetan scholars, organize cultural events, raise funds and collect resources for service Projects in India.

LHA also supports local projects at home in New Orleans – organizing community meals and gardens, helping neighbors, and supporting projects to build community and/or help the needy. LHA maintains a community center to provide space for Buddhist lectures, seminars, films, mindfulness training, meditation, yoga, music and more. The community center building, donated by an LHA team member, is located in the Bayou St John area of New Orleans.

Community Center and Fundraising Events

Some events are hosted solely by LHA, others in collaboration with other organizations, and still others are organized and hosted by separate organizations or individuals. We are grateful to those who value LHA’s work and mission enough to help with our events and/or raise funds to support our projects. Note that LHA assumes no responsibility for events hosted by others.

Email lha.neworleans@lhanola.com to volunteer for an event or organize a benefit. For a list of regular weekly offerings and special events at the community center, visit swahayoga.com. Click here for more info on volunteering. Mark your calendars for two big annual fundraisers: 1) Apocolypse Ball - LHA’s Mardi Gras Ball, which supports the soup kitchen in Dharasmala, India. 2) Vision Fest - which supports LHA's Clear Vision Program.
