Tsering Phunsok prepares for morning meditation at LHA's annual retreat and
fundraiser at the Atchafalaya Basin, a river delta and wetlands in Louisiana.

LHA in the USA

At home in Louisiana, LHA is a small grassroots operation with annual goals but no set annual budget. The LHA office space and Community Center are donated by one of our team members. LHA has no overhead, expenses, or salaries, so the full amount of funds raised go directly to social service programs or projects, primarily Projects in India. However, we also support local projects in New Orleans like community gardens. We organize community meals, help our neighbors and support other projects that build community.

LHA partners with universities and organizations including Tulane and Loyola Universities, LSU Medical School, Ochsner Medical Center and the Louisiana Mississippi Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (LMHPCO) as well as other local, national and international groups, some of which send groups to India each year to volunteer their time and skills while learning directly from the ancient wisdom traditions and cultures of the Himalayas. Together we host Tibetan scholars, organize cultural events, raise funds and collect resources for service projects in India. LHA also maintains a community center in New Orleans to provide space for Buddhist lectures, seminars, films, mindfulness training, meditation, yoga, music and other contemplative practices.

Events

Some LHA events are hosted solely by LHA, others in collaboration with other organizations, and still others are organized and hosted by separate organizations or individuals. We are grateful to those who value LHA’s work and mission enough to help with our events and/or host fundraising events to support our projects. Please note that LHA appreciates, but assumes no responsibility for events hosted by others. Please contact lha.neworleans@lhanola.com to volunteer for an LHA event or organize a benefit. For a list of regular weekly offerings and special events at the LHA Community Center in New Orleans please visit swahayoga.com. Mark your calendars for the two big annual spring fundraisers: Feburary 18 - LHA’s annual Mardi Gras Apocolypse Ball, which supports the Ahimsa House soup kitchen in Dharasmala, India. A party with a purpose! April 15 - The Vision Fest supporting LHA's Clear Vision Program. Click here for more info on volunteering.
